I consider this very good news because it shows the impact residential development has had on the interior of the country. I had breakfast yesterday with George Novey, the owner of Air Panama and he shared with me that his passengers grew by 37%, which is why he is aggressively investing in new aircraft. He credits it to the growth in residential tourism in Panama which is driving the economic growth outside the city. It is not just an increase in foreigners traveling, but more Panamanian business men and women are traveling due to the increases in all types of business activity in the interior related to the influx of new residents.
Aerial transport grew by 21%
The aerial transport was the sector that more grew the most in the Panamanian economy last year: 21.3%. Neither the construction, nor the Colon Free Zone, nor the bank, nor the tourism, nor the telecommunications surpassed that rate. This comes from a study that was made by the Aerial Transport Association (IATA), on request by the presidency of the Latin America Civil Aviation Commission (CLAC), Eustacio Fábrega, also director of Autoridad Aeronautica Civil (AAC).
