Why post stories about Noriega and Gonzalez?
The reason I continue to post stories on these controversial matters is because important political decisions are being made that affect our industry of residential tourism. How the Panamanian government handles matters such as Gonzalez and Noriega sends a message to the market that we should not ignore. In order for Panama to flourish and mature in to a strong democratic country, the government must make decisions that tell the market they are serious about the future and that they have a strong desire to strengthen the rule of law and be free of corruption. These issues are extremely important to investors and even more important to those who are considering living their lives here.
Here is another Noriega story that hass a few more details from the Bangkok Post.
Excerpt: Noriega already faces numerous prison terms in his native country: 15 years for the assassination of a rebel doctor, Hugo Spadafora, in 1985; 20 years for the massacre of rebel officials in 1989; 20 years for the execution of Major Moises Giroldi in 1989; and eight years for embezzlement. France is also seeking his extradition. Noriega was sentenced there in absentia in 1999 to 10 years in prison, but authorities have also vowed to bring fresh charges for money laundering.
