I wish I were talking about Panama but again, it is Costa Rica that gets this new tourist attraction. The Guanacaste region of Costa Rica is the hottest area of tourism growth in Central America. Why? Because in 1995 they built the Liberia International airport which allows tourists to access the area via direct flights from all over North America. Many developers have build beautiful large, upscale projects to fill the need and the area continues to grow each year. Now Hilton announces the opening of a new resort hotel in the same area in 2008. It is important to note that tourist do not flock to the capital city of San Jose, but rather seek the beaches and mountains far away from the high density crime ridden capital. The message is that tourists do not come to Latin American cities for vacations in Costa Rica or Panama. They seek adventure in exotic areas of natural beauty far away from the kind of life they come from.
I wish our tourism ministry would take a few lessons from Costa Rica
who has 100 times as many tourists actually visiting the interior of
the country.
