This is a classic tale if I have ever heard of one. Unbelievable!
From La Prensa...
A tourist apparently got more than she bargained for when she went for a late night swim in the Bay of Panama.
Police said that Susan Shade, 27, a visitor from Germany, stripped naked and jumped into the bay Sunday evening at 10:45 p.m. Witnesses said the woman had been reading a book near the Miramar Hotel when she apparently decided to go for the swim.
She left her clothes, along with her hotel room key, passport and other belongings, on the bench where she was sitting and jumped over a railing on to the sand below. She then ran into the water.
Police were called, and officials from the Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil (Sinaproc) and the Servicio Marítimo Nacional began searching the bay for the woman. The search was called off at 2:30 a.m. Monday.
She was found Monday morning on Isla Flamenco, about four miles from the hotel, after a ship anchored near the island reported seeing the woman there. A rescue boat was sent out and the woman was brought to shore.
Sinaproc officials said the woman refused first aid and offers of food and water. She also refused to say why she had jumped into the water, which is polluted and considered dangerous to swim in because of the strong currents. Officials said she was disoriented and hyperactive, and complained of minor pains in her foot, but was otherwise uninjured. She will not face any charges.
