Last night more than 200 people dressed in their best came into our new country club for an incredible show. Three opera singers had come to Valle Escondido from Barcelona, Spain for a special concert to benefit the Hope Foundation. Ricardo Velasquez-Baritone, Carlos daza-Baritone and Mark Sala-Tenor. The three men belted forth in solo and in unison with a variety of pieces from famous operas. Saralia Velasquez sang the closing number with the local children’s choir as backup that left many in tears. The event left everyone attending feeling as though they were transported to another world. Our estemed provincial governor, Virgilio Vergara, his wife and the Monsenor Lacunza were in attendance, but the star power were the performers.
Maricela Moreno, model and spokesperson added beauty and glamour to this first class program. The food prepared by our staff was world class as well. During the intermission the crowd gathered in the club lobby for wine, champagne, breads and cheeses of every description. There must have been 25 various cheese dips arranged in a beautiful display. Antonio and Chef Alex surpassed themselves with both the presentation and quality of the food. During the intermission, the crowd could not say enough about the performers and the setting.
My wife, Thalia was the hostess and organizer of the event to benefit the
foundation to stem domestic violence in Chiriqui. She thought of everything from the program to the photographers, video cameramen, sound and lights and the other more than 30 staff organized to make this event a night to remember. It is amazing the amount of work it takes to put on an event of this magnitude and they pulled it off down to the last detail.
The preparation for the club house was planned well in advance and included the support structure to cover the indoor pool, the construction and assembly of the stage and testing of all the lights and sound system. All of this had to be done in a short time period in order to not disrupt the operations of the health spa that closed just a few hours before the event was to take place.
