From La Prensa we read that Copa has seen a significant increase in travelers with newly added flights and a slight decrease in occupancy on existing flights.
Copa Airlines saw its traffic grow 5.2 percent in August over the same month in 2008.
The Panamanian airline also increased its capacity by 11.1 percent as a result of new flights that began operations late last year. This increase in capacity has led to a decline in the occupancy rate of flights.
While flights were 80 percent full in 2008, that figure fell to 76.1 percent this August.
Airline officials said that business has recovered from the drop-off that took place during the swine flu scare in may and June.
AeroRepublica reported a 15 percent increase in passenger traffic last month as compared to August 2008. The airline, which flies to 12 destinations in Colombia, reported an average capacity of 74.8 percent, 7.3 percent higher than a year ago, even though the airline increased its capacity by almost 4 percent.
