A short article from La Prensa sheds light on the amount of concrete Panama will be using over the next few years. The canal is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the world and the giant concrete bathtubs designed to raise and lower the mega ships uses a lot of this type of plastic.
"Cemex signed a contract to supply 500 000 tons of cement to the United Group Consortium for the third set of locks of the Panama Canal. The Panama Canal Authority estimates that to build the new locks on the Atlantic and the Pacific will require 1.3 million tonnes of cement."
Lets just hope Panama does not sink under the weight of the concrete or debt incurred to buy it.
