Last night PBS featured a new video about the construction of the Panama canal and it is very well done. You will learn many things you probably did not know if you have not read Panama Fever or Path Between the Seas. According to the historians in this video, the construction of the Panama canal was instrumental in making the U.S. into the super power it is today.
